Get rid of your brown spots, milia, skintags

Q-Switched532 laser for removal of flat brownish age spots (often referred to as "liver spots"). They typically appear in areas chronically exposed to UV, or they can also just appear on face/neck/hands from ageing and genetics. These spots are difficult to coverup, even the best concealers for the skin eventually fail to camouflage spots that get darker with time.

Age spots or seborrheic keratoses are differentiated from freckles or photodamage pigment, they do not fade or clear with topical skincare, peels or IPL rejuvenation. They need to be "peeled" at the base, which is why a Q-Sw laser beam is used- this laser energy precisely separates the keratosis from the healthy skin and allows it to dry up and peel off within a week.(or the Moxi laser can also peel these if you have many lesions and could benefit from a full face laser treatment)

Electrodessication is a treatment to remove small bumps and lumps on the skin using a precise needle delivering electric current. Small bumps on the skin such as milia, enlarged oil glands (sebaceous hyperplasia), skintags or "stuck-on" age spots (seborrheic keratosis) are super-heated via the current-delivering needle tip. Lesions can be numbed up with topical anesthetic beforehand for comfort, and the recovery is about 1 week.

Winter is the perfect time to take care of these annoying skin tags and age spots. Enjoy 20% savings on the electrodessication or Q-Sw532 treatment in February.

Juvederm for the Understated Makeover

From Feb 1 to March 31 enjoy Double the Savings through the Brilliant Distinctions reward program!

A picture can speak a thousand words. Our busy lives and especially mid-life changes in skin resiliency can lead to one day looking in the mirror and thinking, "what happened?" Sometimes it's hard to even put your finger on it, what is it that is making me look tired or "just not like myself?" There are many anatomic factors to consider, explanations to why things are changing. But the self-care ritual of the occasional injectable treatment should make you feel like magic happened here. A sprinkle of Botox is often a game-changer, but the game should be won in the most subtle way. No one really should know you had it done, unless you want to tell them.

Ageing is a wonderful privilege and most self-actualized 40-70 year olds never say to us, "I would like to be 20 again". But subtle tweaks to reverse engineer the past several years (or sometimes even one very stressful year) are so worth it. Here's the most important part, you don't have to feel like every hallmark of ageing or change needs to be reversed. Invest in your self-care in ways that are meaningful to YOU, and try your best not to be persuaded by social media trends. There is a difference between innovation and trendy. We always want to be adopting innovations that make sense (advances best practices and best results) and truly enhance YOU.

Log onto your Brilliant Distinctions account (or join if you don't have one yet), and find out how you can be rewarded DOUBLE POINTS in Feb and March, save up to $240 on your Juvederm treatment.

Winter Dry Skin

When the furnace is running all winter, the relative humidity goes down and this means dry itchy skin, with compromised barrier function. A compromised barrier means that the normal protection and resilience the skin has in higher humidity conditions is weakened, and we certainly see a rise in eczema, contact sensitivities, rosacea flares, seborrheic dermatitis and other skin conditions.

Ways to keep your skin hydrated and optimize barrier function this winter:

  • Try to limit hot showers and overstripping your skin with harsh soaps and exfoliation.

  • Moisturize after showering with non fragranced products ideally, shea butter, ceramides, and other barrier supporting ingredients are helpful in maintaining a well hydrated skin (I buy the biggest bottle of La Roche Posay Lipikar Baume for my winter skin survival)

  • Even tap water is a pH that is too alkaline, your skin barrier is slightly acidic for optimal function. Look for cleansers that have a lower pH or use something like hypochlorous spray on your skin after you cleanse (Hale Derma spray is sold in two different sizes)

  • Don't go overboard with your skincare products that are also potential irritants. Retinols, glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid and other "exfoliants" can be too harsh on already dry skin. Try not to compound their effects, and cycle through these products so you aren't over irritating your skin. Peptides and soothing treatment creams are a nice "night off" option or layer a calming cream over top of an irritant to "dilute" the potency.

  • Protect from sun as well as wind chap, apply soothing moisturizers if you are dry, and a clear or tinted zinc sunscreen every day.

Here are some of @dermnurseLara's favourite at home tools for this winter:

  • SKinceuticals P-Tiox- great for relaxing skin tension lines, improves appearance of crepey skin, also contains Niacinamide- anti-inflammatory

  • Skinceuticals B5 Hydrating gel- lovely calming humectant, really helps to hold moisture on the skin surface.

  • Alastin Ultra Nourishing cream- the ultimate in luxurious velvety moisture. The Tri-hex peptides in the Alastin line provide collagen and elastin support.

A free gift with purchase (while quantities last)

Spend $400 with any combination of skincare products and receive an Alastin Restorative Neck Complex (worth $170)
